Matchpoint Badminton Club

Committee Meeting: 19^th November 2007 at 7:00pm,
The Old Farmhouse, Totton

1                  Apologies

PeteG(PG). Pete also resigned from the committee and the position of Social Secretary.

2                  Minutes of Previous Meeting (Date??)

3                  Matters Arising

None

4                  Committee Positions

4.1           Secretarial Role

Due to the very significant amount of time taken up by the Match Secretary role, JP requested to relinquish the position of club secretary. CP agreed to take on this role.

4.2           Social Secretary

Ben Morris has indicated to MNW that he would be happy to take on the role of Social Secretary. MNW agreed to continue to support this position. Ben to assume PG’s position on the committee and on the club night rota. PB to update club night rota in the website.

5                  Membership, Subscriptions and BAoE Registrations

The committee reviewed the list of members, club subscriptions and registrations. General summary – there is potentially up to £1,000 outstanding in club subscriptions. MNW to approach individuals concerned, with assistance from other committee members where required.

6                  Club Night Structure

The committee discussed a proposal for a club night seeding system, which was proposed to improve the 'levelness' of the games. It was agreed that the current system of the club night rota of committee members selecting the club night games was working well and that no problem existed that required the introduction of a seeding system.

7                  Additional Matches (for Waterside Mens)

With the reduced number of games available in the Waterside Mens league, it was proposed that a number of friendly matches could be arranged. This was agreed but with the understanding that free match nights more than 1 month in advance would be reserved for other rearranged league matches and cup games. JP to publish the free match nights at the beginning of a month on which CP and MP can arrange matches. Courts can be booked thru Ms Chris Reeves at Totton Rec.

CP and MP to confirm dates arranged with JP.

8                  Christmas Social Event

Due to everyone being too busy during December, it was agreed to hold a late Christmas Social in Jan / Feb / March. MNW to work with BM to arrange.

9                  AOB

9.1           Cleanliness of Court Floor

The floor has been very dirty for many of our home matches. Often the centre staff cannot even find the big brush, let alone have time to use it. It was agreed IN to contact Totton Rec to kindly suggest they purchase another brush and leave it dedicated to the main hall.

9.2           Notification of Tournament Details

It was agreed that announcement of local tournaments to the club was generally disorganised and usually late, and this could be affecting attendance of these tournaments by club members. CP to approach Jo, Jackie and MP to clarify information flow from Hampshire Badminton, Westgate and similar organisations.

9.3           E-mail Distribution Lists

It was proposed that a club wide E-mail distribution list should be published to encourage communication between club members - tournaments etc. It was agreed that this was neither necessary nor desirable, and that all club wide circulation should be via the committee, using the circulation facility available from the BAoE website.

9.4           Shuttles

It was agreed the new ‘Gold’ 77 speed shuttles were generally working well but could at times perhaps be a little fast. MNW to purchase a quantity of 78 speed shuttles for comparison.
