2 Minutes of the last meeting

Minutes of the meeting on 3rd February were read and adopted.

3 Matters Arising

An appropriate letter had been drafted, approved by Jo, Mike and Pete and sent to Tony Latimer. It was noted that he had been to a Club Night since.

4 Chairman's Report

Nothing to report

5 Treasurer's Report

Craig spoke of his concern over the lack of funds at present.

Jo had paid last 3 month court bill by credit card as there was not a sufficient balance in the Clubs account.

There will be shuttles left at the end of this year and will be included on balance sheet as an asset.

The rolling capital figure of £2000 looks unattainable at present.

Match fees were corrected last year so that matches would cover themselves, so it seems we need to look at membership fees. It was suggested we scrap the Club Night fee and up the membership fee. This would ensure an income to the club regardless of Club Night attendance, would hopefully encourage Club Night participation (as you have already paid for it) and would also make administration easier. Craig and Jo to look at figures and see how much fees would need to increase to cover costs. Jo to investigate other clubs fees as well.

Any proposal would need positive promotion and AGM vote. Figures, if decided to progress, to be published in pre AGM Newsletter to encourage attendance.

It was noted that we already got a good deal on courts i.e. VAT free, only 8 hours charged on Mondays (we nearly always use more) etc

9 Badminton Ladder

13 mixed pairs and 11 levels (including 4 ladies pairs) have entered.

Little play and no movement so far, but will hopefully take off after matches have ceased.

Pete expressed his disappointment that the "better" players had chosen to play with others of a similar standard. Jo pointed out that the ladder was meant to give people good competitive games of their own standard. It was also noted that very few players had actually chosen to play with their team partners.

It is starting to work, come and challenge people.

10 Club Championships

Jo confirmed the dates as Thursdays 3rd (Singles), 10th (level doubles) and 17th (mixed doubles) of June.

Rules and entry sheets to go up shortly

Details to be included in Newsletter

11 Summer

Jo confirmed summer arrangements and Coaching Dates / costs

All to go in Newsletter

12 Any Other Business

Pete Gurd raised the point that the shuttles had seemed slow. Jo explained that we had been using 77's not 78's to start the season and that the plan had been to switch to 78's when it got colder. Unfortunately then there were no 78's in the country, so yes, the shuttles had been slow during the colder weather.

Pete Gurd also raised the subject of sponsorship. It was agreed Jo would draft an article re Matchpoint Badminton Club and Pete would then circulate to local firms with a view to attracting some sponsorship for next year.
