MATCHPOINT BADMINTON CLUB

COMMITTEE MEETING

Monday 24th February 2003

Present: Pete Burgess (Chairman), Mike Newton Woof (Chairman), Jo Francis (Secretary), Matt Pascoe (Junior Representative), Gladys Appleby, Matt Bunton, Jacky Barron, Ian Bland, Dan Amy, Craig Paget, Pete Gurd

2 Minute of the last meeting

Minutes of the meeting on 18th November 2002 were read and adopted.

3 Matter Arising

Club T Shirts - Craig cannot find paperwork regarding this. Jo to investigate new suppliers and costings.

David Lloyd - no response at all form last meeting. None of the requested changes have been made to the courts. Brian Hooper has now left.

Winchester Mixed 2 - following Mike's chat, Tony Latimer is still captain

VIP Program - we have now received £250 from Exxon's Volunteer Involvement Program for our Junior Club thanks to Jane Bickle's efforts. Jo has written to thank Jane. We have received press coverage regarding this.

Equity Policy - on review Jo's recommendation is not to adopt. Mike and Pete to review as well. It appears to be very constraining and we can operate a fair Club without it.

Insurance- Jo has replied to BA of E saying that we are happy yo lose physiotherapy and personal accident as long as public liability remains. A breakdown of the split was asked for, but reply as yet.

4 Chairman's Report

Pete - nothing to report

Mike - commented on how nice it was to see so many at Committee

5 Treasurer's Report

Senior account stands at just over £1000 at present and courts are paid for until end of March. £600 still owed in theory to Junior Account re shuttles.

Membership fees are largely in there are 2 or 3 still outstanding, but are being chased. We have had a few 1/2 year memberships from new members or those returning from injury.

Match fees slow in coming in as always.

Club Night fees are not always being collected if Jo or Craig are not present.

Club night rota to be out back into action and Committee member on rota is responsible for collecting fees. Will only be 7 weeks in advance now.

6 Secretary's Report

Summer Badminton will start on Thursday 1st May 8:30pm on 2 courts.

Coaching will be sorted by Jo for once a Month

Club Championships are on Mondays 2nd June (Singles), 9th June (Level Doubles) and 16th June (Mixed Doubles). NO CLUB NIGHT on these evenings.

AGM will be on Monday 21st July 7:30pm in the Bar area.

No Badminton on Bank holiday Mondays (Easter Monday and 2 May Bank Holidays)

A report on Team positions was given and congratulations recorded to John Hepworth on his Hampshire call up (at last) and Jo and Matt on recent tournament successes.

7 Social Secretary's Report

The Xmas dinner had been a great success. Gladys will organise next year.

There will be a Fun Tournament in April. Date to be confirmed.

[Subsequent to meeting this has been confirmed as Saturday 12th April at 7pm]

Suggestion of 10 pin bowling for annual presentation evening. Jo to look into. Separate room needed for presentation.

8 Junior Representatives Report

At present there are only 3-4 participants each week.

Matt Pascoe wished to resign as Junior Representative.

Pete G Happy yo continue, but doesn't drive.

Mike recorded thanks to Matt for past time and efforts.

Questions were raised regarding the future of the Junior Club:

Are we targeting the right age group?

Are we in the wrong area?

Is the day / time right?

It was resolved to:

Continue with the Club as it is until the end of March (Jo to find cover for the remaining 5 Sundays from Coaches / Leaders in Club).

Investigate other venues: Gladys - Cantell School

Pete G - Tauntons

Dan - Itchen College & Bitterne Leisure Centre Change day and time to Saturday morning at 10am if possible.

Discuss again at June meeting with a view to revival in September. This will also be in time for another grant application.

Junior registration has still not been done.

[Subsequent to meeting this has now been done and awaiting cheque from Treasurer]

Cupboard - Pete's Dad has materials it just needs putting together.

Leaders award on Sunday 4th May. Pete Gurd to be put forward. Pete Burgess to confirm availability.
